Oxitoz, a platinum-containing complex similar to cisplatin, is an alkylating agent. After intracellular hydrolysis, the platinum compound binds to DNA forming cross-links which inhibit DNA replication and transcription, resulting in cell death. Oxitoz selectively inhibits the synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). The guanine and cytosine content correlates with the degree of Oxitoz-induced cross-linking. At high concentrations of the drug, cellular RNA and protein synthesis are also suppressed.
